How Kylie Jenner Normalized Teen Pregnancy

If you have a phone, laptop, or any access to social media, then you know Kylie Jenner had given birth to her first child, Stormi. She kept this from her fans for 9 entire months. Staying completely out of the spotlight and hiding her baby bump, Kylie took time out to make arrangements for the sake of her baby.

After she gave birth, Kylie released an 11:00 minute video titled, “To Our Daughter.” Travis Scott, the baby’s father, was also featured in the video. It’s not her having a baby, or hiding it that I have an issue with. Its the fact that she normalized having a baby to her fans that gets to me. At 19 years old, with a net worth of $50 million dollars, she is not the typical teenage. The video shows all the luxuries and fun times Kylie faced throughout her pregnancy. The video clearly depicts the lifestyle of comfort and a worry-free attitude. Unfortunately, a lot of teen pregnancies don’t work like that. A lot of the times, people don’t have family to rely on or money to support them through it. Kylie’s fan base is solely young adults, specially women aged like herself. I think her posting this extravagant video showing her perfect pregnancy normalizes it. It shows a false narrative of how things actually go for a typical teen pregnancy.

Though I think it wasn’t purposeful, I don’t think she thought it through as a public figure.
